Shieldwall is set of wargames rules allowing players to recreate the clash of Norse and Saxon shieldwalls in Scandinavia, Britain and Ireland.
The rules can also be used for battles elsewhere in northern Europe including Viking raids in France as well as the Rus in the east and the Normans in Britain.
Games played with these rules involve getting your shieldwalls ordered and ready for battle. then signalling the advance to contact when you think you have an edge on your opponent but the gods and fortune may well intervene in the best laid plans.
To recreate the heroic ethos of this age the leaders fight in the front ranks alongside their men and may challenge opposing leaders to personal combat.
