After painting over the white undercoat with mid-blue I have added 3 fleurs de lis and finished off the coat of arms with more gold
18th C French cavalry standards had a different design on each side which actually I find easier to paint than doing the same design on both sides. The flag was first painted with a red background and then the gold painted directly on using Games Workshop's Burnished Gold. A patch of white had been added on the left side as an undercoat for blue to follow.
French cavalry standards had a scarf of white around the top. This I did by simply painting a thin strip of paper white and then using white glue wrap it around the staff, twisting it around a toothpick while the paper is still wet so that when it dries it looks like it is fluttering in the wind.
